Meditation is defined as "a practice where an individual uses a technique, such as mindfulness, or focusing the mind on a particular object, thought, or activity
to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state." ~wiki
It is used as a way to "ground and center", which means being in the now and feeling yourself completely without distraction.
We use meditation for this exact purpose as well, but we also employ it in other ways.
Meditation is being aware of the self; the way you inhale and exhale, the way your heart beats, the saliva on your tongue, what you sense.
It is being aware of all of your senses clearly, and then once you have acheived that grounding, pulling all of that energy to a center point.
At that center, consciously and actively, that energy can be transferred into a mindful focus, such as focusing on breathing for health goals, or focusing on a happy place
when you feel stressed, or grounding when you feel anxious.
Mindfulness learned during meditation can also reach out of the self and into one's surroundings.
Meditation is only the first step to mindfulness. Mindfulness alters consciousness.
Vibrations connect to frequencies in your nervous system which expresses in emotional states.
Frequency can break glass, cause things to heat up and even dissolve matter.
Emitted vibrations create change. Emotions create frequency. Frequencies become patterns and habitual responses.
We use meditation to calm ourselves or to become focused and mindful. We also train ourselves to use a form of meditation to change our own personal vibration and environment.
